All of us own a computer, cell phone, IPad, or Kindle and spend many a hour typing, texting, reading or playing games. Have you ever noticed where your head is? Yes, I know it is on top of your shoulders...but is it? Forward Head Posture is a real condition. Did you know your head weighs between 8-12 lbs and for every inch our head moves forward that weight increases by 10 lbs.? So when we are texting on our phones or typing on a computer at home, or at work, our head lowers, our upper back rounds, shoulders rotate inward, and our hips rotate forward. This causes tension in the neck and shoulder muscles (being stretched) and your chest muscles (being shortened/contracted). Why does this matter? This lack of alignment can lead to headaches, shoulder pain, lower back pain, and possible cervical issues later in life. So next time you pick up your cell phone or sit at your computer ask yourself…What’s Up With My Posture?
